1-Hour Cleaning Tips for a Party-Ready House

You’ve got a house party on the horizon… and an entire abode to clean before that can happen. Fortunately, you don’t have to dedicate hours and hours to the job. Instead, you can tackle your to-do list in 60 minutes or less, and your house will be sparkling for your guests. Here’s how to do it:

1. Clean the Kitchen Countertops

If you’re serving food or drinks, you want your kitchen to look clean and sparkling. Place dishes into the dishwasher or wash dirty plates and glassware pre-party. Then, wipe down the sink and counters so that they shine. If your counters are laminate, for instance, apply a thin layer of car wax to make them super shiny for your party. Finish off the job by steaming or mopping the floors.

2. Tidy the Living Room

You don’t need a ton of time to make your living room look presentable. Start with the couch cushions and throw pillows and fluff them all up for a refreshed look. Re-throw any blankets or other décor for a polished look. Then, tidy up the tables. Reorganize decorative pieces, magazines and remotes. You should have to vacuum or sweep the floors, too.

3. Hit the Bathroom

You want your guests to know that your bathrooms are nice and clean, too. So, spend a few minutes scrubbing your toilet so that it sparkles. Then, wipe down the bathroom countertops and sink as you did in the kitchen.

You don’t have to clean every single bathroom in your home. Just start with the spots where your guests will be. This is called zone cleaning, which has you focusing on a single area of your abode while you clean. This plan can save you time pre-party, so clean only the bathrooms and other areas where your guests will be.

To finish, outfit the bathroom with fresh towels and refill the hand soap if necessary. Leave an extra roll of toilet paper somewhere, too, so the party can continue without a hitch.

4. Light Candles and Lower the Lights

A bit of mood lighting can do your home good, especially if that flicker comes from a scented candle. Even if you don’t have time to fully clean your home, you can let candles waft a fresh scent throughout the space. They give off just the right amount of mood lighting, too. If you want to have a livelier party, though, keep candles in the bathroom only. Again, a few candles will keep the bathroom smelling fresh throughout the party — no need to worry about mid-party cleaning.

5. Empty All of the Trash Cans

Once you’ve finished cleaning, complete the job by emptying all of the trash in your home. Empty bathroom and kitchen bins and bring them outside. Removing the trash can make your space smell and look so much cleaner. So, if you only have an hour, it’s a vital part of the process.

Prep, Then Party

A quick clean-up can have you ready for a party in just an hour. And, with a clean house, you can fully enjoy the party you’ve planned for your family or friends. So, grab your cleaning supplies and get started — you have a house to clean and then, a party to attend.
